Great Britain to Host Grand Départ for 2027 Tour de France
The 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ will mark a historic return to Great Britain, making it the third time the country has hosted the prestigious opening stages of the race.

Following the successful starts in London (2007) and Yorkshire (2014), which drew massive crowds and showcased the UK's deep passion for cycling, the upcoming event promises to be even bigger. This time, the Grand Départ is expected to feature multiple stages across England, Scotland, and Wales, turning it into a truly nationwide spectacle.
Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme expressed his excitement about bringing the race back to British soil, emphasizing the UK’s strong cycling culture and the incredible response from fans in previous years.
"The passion and enthusiasm for cycling in the UK are incredible. The Grand Départ in 2014 was one of the most unforgettable in Tour history, and we are thrilled to bring the race back in 2027," Prudhomme stated.
As the race kicks off, fans can expect thrilling opening stages, covering iconic British landscapes, from historic cities to stunning countryside routes. Some of the biggest names in cycling, including Tour de France champions and rising stars, will be competing, ensuring an electrifying atmosphere for spectators.
The event is also expected to deliver significant economic and tourism benefits, with thousands of cycling enthusiasts lining the streets to witness the action firsthand.
Britain has a rich history of producing cycling legends, such as Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, and Mark Cavendish. Hosting the Grand Départ once again could inspire a new generation of British riders to take up the sport and dream of future Tour de France victories.
While the exact route and host cities will be revealed closer to the event, one thing is certain—the 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ will be a spectacular celebration of cycling in the United Kingdom, further cementing its place in the sport’s history
