IPL 2025 : Riyan Parag to Lead Rajasthan Royals as Sanju Samson Recovers from Injury
Rajasthan Royals will have a temporary change in leadership for IPL 2025 as Sanju Samson, their full-time captain, has not yet been cleared by the BCCI Centre of Excellence for wicketkeeping.

While he will be available as a batter or an Impact Player, the team will be led by Riyan Parag until Samson regains full fitness.
“Sanju Samson, an integral part of the Royals set-up, will remain a key contributor with the bat till he gets cleared for wicket-keeping and fielding. He will return as captain once fully fit,” the franchise confirmed in a statement.
Samson sustained a finger injury when a Jofra Archer bouncer struck him during India’s T20I series against England. He underwent surgery and completed rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru before joining IPL 2025 RR’s training session on Monday.
Parag’s first challenge as captain will be Rajasthan Royals’ season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23, followed by home games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati.
