He went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and was left out of Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy squads.Punjab Kings' rising star Shashank Singh, who has played alongside Shaw in Mumbai’s domestic circuit, recently shared his perspective on what might be going wrong for the young batter. Speaking on the Shubhankar Mishra Podcast, Shashank stressed that Shaw still has immense potential but might need to make certain adjustments.

"Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I’ve known him since he was 13, playing club cricket in Mumbai. If you ask me what’s wrong with him, he just has a different perspective on a few things," Shashank said.

He suggested that minor lifestyle changes could play a significant role in reviving Shaw’s career."Maybe he can tweak his work ethic—sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, improve his diet. If he can accept and make these adjustments, it would be great for Indian cricket," Shashank added.

However, he also acknowledged that Shaw likely has enough experienced mentors guiding him already. "Maybe he is already making these changes. He doesn’t need my advice—he probably has 10 better people advising him," he said.

A Difficult Phase for Shaw

Shaw recently captained the Route Mobile team in the DY Patil T20 2025 tournament. However, his exclusion from the IPL auction, despite setting a base price of ₹75 lakh, has only intensified concerns about his future in professional cricket.

Shashank Singh’s Rise

While Shaw faces setbacks, Shashank Singh has been on an upward trajectory. The Punjab Kings batter had a standout IPL 2025 season, smashing 354 runs at a strike rate of nearly 165, cementing his place as one of the tournament’s best performers.

His performances led to Punjab Kings making him their first retention ahead of the mega auction for ₹5.5 crore. His sudden rise has also made waves off the field—Shashank was the ninth-most searched athlete on Google in 2024, with Hardik Pandya being the only other Indian in the Top 10.

As he gears up to play under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy for PBKS in IPL 2025, Shashank’s career is on an upward swing, while Shaw remains at a crossroads, searching for a way back into the limelight.
