Fielding at deep square leg, Ravindra misjudged a slog-sweep from Khushdil Shah under the floodlights and was struck flush on the forehead. The impact was brutal, leaving him bleeding profusely and motionless for a brief period, sending shockwaves through the stadium.

Medical personnel rushed onto the field as a stunned silence fell over the crowd. Ravindra, who appeared dazed, was attended to immediately, with ice packs applied to stem the bleeding. He was then helped off the field for further medical evaluation, leaving his teammates visibly concerned. Fortunately, initial reports suggested he was in stable condition.

Despite the unsettling incident, the match continued after a short delay, with Michael Bracewell finishing the over, conceding five runs in the remaining three deliveries. At the end of the 37th over, Pakistan were 204/5, still needing 127 runs from 13 overs to chase down New Zealand’s challenging target of 331.

However, Pakistan’s hopes of a successful chase quickly faded. Fakhar Zaman fought valiantly, scoring an explosive 84 off 69 balls, but he received little support from the rest of the batting lineup. No other batter managed to cross the 40-run mark, as New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack took control of the game. Mitchell Santner (3/41) and Matt Henry (3/45) led the charge, with Bracewell also contributing two crucial wickets. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 252 in 47.5 overs, falling well short by 78 runs.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand had found themselves in a tricky position at 207/5 after 40 overs, with Pakistan’s bowlers keeping them in check. But Glenn Phillips turned the game on its head with a breathtaking maiden ODI century. The explosive middle-order batter unleashed a flurry of strokes, smashing boundaries at will and taking New Zealand to a formidable total of 330 in their allotted 50 overs. His stunning knock ensured the Kiwis had enough on the board to put Pakistan under pressure.

Despite the injury scare, New Zealand walked away with a convincing victory, showcasing their depth and resilience. While Ravindra’s condition will be monitored closely, the Kiwis will be pleased with their dominant start to the series.
