Justin Thomas Makes Historic Comeback with Record-Equalling 62 at The Players Championship
Justin Thomas delivered a sensational performance at The Players Championship, equaling the TPC Sawgrass course record with a jaw-dropping 10-under-par 62.

His incredible second-round comeback not only put him back in contention but also made tournament history. The 31-year-old American had a nightmare start, shooting a six-over 78 in his opening round, leaving him on the brink of missing the cut.
But on Friday, he flipped the script in spectacular fashion, becoming the first player ever to record 11 birdies in a single round at the PGA Tour’s flagship event. His remarkable 16-shot improvement from round one to round two is the largest in tournament history, propelling him up 104 spots on the leaderboard.
Despite a late bogey on the 18th after finding the water, Thomas now sits just seven shots behind joint leaders Min Woo Lee and Akshay Bhatia. Reflecting on his round, he told Sky Sports:
"Crazy is an understatement. It is wild. I am just really proud of myself. The score is great, but just as important was coming out with the right attitude. I put myself in a position where I needed to do something crazy just to make the cut."
With the weekend shaping up to be a thriller, Australia’s Min Woo Lee and 23-year-old American Akshay Bhatia lead the pack at 11 under after both signed for rounds of 66. JJ Spaun follows closely, just one shot behind.
Rory McIlroy remains in the hunt as well, shooting a four-under 68 to sit at nine under, just two shots off the lead. This marks his second-lowest 36-hole score at TPC Sawgrass, bettered only when he won the event in 2019.
Elsewhere, Collin Morikawa matched his best round at Sawgrass with a 65, while England’s Tommy Fleetwood, still searching for his first PGA Tour victory, impressed with a 66 to sit at seven under.
World number one Scottie Scheffler carded a 70 and is two shots back, while Xander Schauffele—playing alongside McIlroy and Scheffler—closed with a birdie to finish at one under. That birdie was crucial, extending his streak of 59 consecutive cuts made, the longest since Tiger Woods’ legendary run of 142 from 1998 to 2005.
