Since joining Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, Lionel Messi has completely transformed Major League Soccer (MLS), both on and off the field. His arrival not only elevated the league's global profile but also helped the Herons capture their first-ever trophy, winning the Leagues Cup in his debut tournament.
He followed that up by guiding the team to the 2024 Supporters' Shield, awarded to the league’s best regular-season team.
Now, in 2025, Inter Miami has its sights set on the ultimate prize—the MLS Cup. After a disappointing playoff exit last year against Atlanta United in the second round, Messi and his squad will be determined to go all the way.

Inter Miami were originally scheduled to kick off their 2025 MLS season on Saturday, February 22, with an afternoon match. However, their CONCACAF Champions Cup fixture against Sporting KC was delayed due to inclement weather, pushing it back by a day. To allow the players proper recovery time, the MLS season opener was rescheduled to 7 p.m. Eastern Time on the same day.
