Cooper also played for Scarborough, and before making his T20 debut for the Perth Scorchers in January 2023, Tye gave him his debut cap. In January 2022, he was named captain of the Australia national under-19 cricket team for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He also captained the Western Australia under-17 cricket team. His impressive performances earned him a spot with the Perth Scorchers in the 2022–23 Big Bash League season.

Connolly made his T20 debut for the Scorchers on January 7, 2023, against Brisbane Heat, and played a key role in the final, scoring 25 runs off 11 balls to help secure the win for his team. His List A debut came on September 24, 2023, for Western Australia in the 2023–24 Marsh One-Day Cup, and in March 2024, he made his first-class debut for Western Australia, scoring a solid 90 runs against Tasmania in the 2023–24 Sheffield Shield final.

His journey continued with the Australian squad, as he was named to the T20I squad for the tour of England and Scotland in July 2024. Connolly made his T20I debut against Scotland on September 7, 2024, and followed it up with his ODI debut against England on September 29.
