The 27-year-old American blazed through the distance in 12 minutes, 44.09 seconds, slicing nearly six seconds off the previous record of 12:49.60 set by Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele back in 2004.

This performance comes just a week after Fisher set the world indoor 3,000-meter record at the Millrose Games in New York, proving he’s in the form of his life.

France’s Jimmy Gressier finished second in 12:54.92, breaking the European indoor record previously held by Spain’s Alberto Garcia. Gressier also bettered his own French national record in the process, capping off an incredible night of racing.

Grant Fisher had an impressive collegiate career, earning runner-up finishes at the NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. In 2019, he took second place in the 3,000 meters and was also part of the distance medley relay team that finished as runners-up.

That same indoor season, Fisher ran one of the fastest collegiate 3,000-meter times ever, clocking 7:42.62 at the Millrose Games to edge out rival Morgan McDonald by half a second. After graduating, the then-22-year-old decided to turn professional in June 2019, joining the Nike-sponsored Bowerman Track Club.
